Whirling our World

 Jane and Bill Morgan grew up in rural Illinois not knowing each other, but both knowing they wanted to explore this world.  Bill started his exploration in 1968 on a People-to-People exchange program resulting in six weeks traveling western and some of central Europe.  A year later he spent three months through AFS as an exchange student in Shiraz, Iran.  Jane had been denied a trip to Europe with her older brother while in high school, but spent a semester in Salzburg, Austria during college.  A half-century later with well over 100 overseas trips together, the biggest trip of all is looming large in the headlights.  Jane and Bill embark on a 274 night around-the-world cruise on Serenade of the Seas leaving December 10, 2023 from Miami and returning there September 10, 2024!  This will be the biggest whirling of the world with over 150 ports visited in over 65 countries including all seven continents!

Enrichment Lectures Aboard

A woman not yet forty who has visited every country in our world and an RAF pilot who later flew the supersonic Concorde for 15 years have been our first two lecturers.   Jessica Nabongo grew up in Detroit, but also holds Ugandan citizenship and National Geographic published her book about visiting every country.  She told us getting into North Korea is easy with a Ugandan passport even though they knew she was American.  She discussed her travels and life, answered questions and signed her book before she got off in Bonaire. Captain John Hutchinson had several fascinating lectures about the design and flight of the Concorde with incredible photos.  He also lectured about the details of the Air France Concorde disaster in 2000 that partially led to the demise of the Concorde.

One Week of Ultimate World Cruise Activity

I'm cheating a bit in saying one week as a week ago today was our arrival in Miami, not cruise start.  Saturday night, December 9, we had back-to-back parties.  First, cocktails poolside and waterfront with our ship in view.  This was for the 41 Pinnacles (people with about two years or more on Royal Caribbean ships) who would start the nine months of cruising the next day.  The second party was hors d'oeuvres and drinks in the hotel's meeting area followed by dinner, music, speeches and dancing.  It was akin to a most excellent wedding reception where all attendees were at a high level of anticipation. Our first port was Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas. It is essentially a water park with slides, rides, drinks and food--fun for all. Yesterday was our second port, Cozumel, Mexico.  We toured to Chichén Itzá, a well-preserved Mayan ruin consisting of many acres. It took a 45 minute ferry ride, 15 minute walk, and a 2.5 hour bus ride
